Reminder: Sharing & Connection for Women in Recovery

Come to the backyard of the Marin Alano Club (1360 Lincoln Ave., San Rafael) on September 24 for an afternoon of connection and learnings on topics for women in recovery: “Inclusivity in A.A. Literature” and “Practicing All Our Principles in Meetings”.

Come hear Kris H. share experience, strength and hope around Step 9. Listen to perspectives on how this Step has helped members clear the wreckage of their past and experience the Ninth Step promises in their own lives. Reminder: Marin Pop-Up Bookstore

Need a new book to read with a sponsee or pamphlets to offer at your meeting? Pre-purchase your A.A. literature and chips by Saturday, September 17 @ 2pm via the online bookstore for pick-up on Monday, September 19 at the Marin General Service meeting in the Jackson Cafe at Vivalon (930 Tamalpais Avenue, San Rafael). Join SF Public Relations for Sunday Streets SF

San Francisco Public Relations Committee (SFPR) is looking for volunteers to help with Sunday Streets SF, a six-series event happening throughout San Francisco. The next one in Western Addition is September 18 @ 11am-4pm, and volunteers are needed at the A.A. information table. Help carry the message to the suffering alcoholic who may not yet know about A.A. The National A.A. Technology Workshop (NAATW) is hosting an immersive event on September 9-11 about the theme “Moving Forward Together”. Those interested in using technology in service to A.A. are encouraged to attend in order to share their experience, gather ideas and bring learnings back to their groups. This is a hybrid event, so you can consider attending in-person in Tukwila, WA or participating virtually.
 

 

Save the Date: SF Unity Day and Marin Unity Day

SF Unity Day and Marin Unity Day are returning in person, with live streaming available. Meet representatives from Intergroup and various service entities, participate in orientations and workshops and hear a panel of representatives discuss the value of our service organizations. Check out the current schedule for SF Unity Day on 10/8 here. And save the date for the Marin Unity Day on 10/15 in San Rafael.

 

Central Office Holiday Closure

Central Office will be closed on September 3 in observance of Labor Day. It will resume regular hours of operation next week, which are Tuesday to Friday 10-6pm and Saturdays 12-4pm.

San Francisco Public Relations Committee is looking for volunteers to help with Sunday Streets SF. Sunday Streets is a six-series event happening throughout San Francisco this summer. The next Sunday Streets is this Sunday @ 11am-4 pm in SOMA. Volunteers are needed at the A.A. information table! Help carry the message to the still-suffering alcoholic who may not know about A.A. Share Your Personal Story About A.A. Service

How did service keep you connected to your first home group? Was it a greeter commitment that kept you coming back? Maybe you deepened your learning about the Traditions as a General Service Rep. There were many remarkable women in the early days of A.A., including Marty Mann, who helped raise awareness about the importance of treatment and education of the disease of alcoholism, among other achievements. Learn about one of our prominent pioneers tomorrow @ 9:30am. All are welcome at this virtual LGBTQ+ event, featuring a presentation by Mily T. of San Francisco.
 

 

This Sunday: A.A. Meeting and Bocce Ball

Come to the Marin Bocce Federation (550 B Street, San Rafael) on August 21 for a speaker meeting at 12pm. Hear Bekah share their experience, strength and hope and then stick around for bocce ball and barbecue.

CNCA Summer Assembly

California Northern Coastal Area (CNCA) is hosting the 2022 Summer Assembly on August 20 at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd (580 Larkin Street, Salinas). This hybrid event features a variety of workshops, including “Safety in A.A.” and “Getting Back into the Service Groove”. Consider participating virtually or in-person and share your experience with your groups.

The latest edition of The Point, featuring works by local A.A. members, explores how we greet newcomers who are unsure if A.A. is for them and the shifts in perspective experienced by a member in recovery. Intergroup News

Intergroup held its monthly meeting on August 3. There’s alot of news to share! Here’s the latest to take back to your groups.

  • Spread the Word – Marin Pop-Up Bookstore is August 15 @ 6:45 to 7:30pm and 9 to 9:30pm. Literature and chips can be pre-ordered by 2pm on 8/13 (and select literature will be available for sale) at the monthly Marin General Service meeting at Vivalon (930 Tamalpais, San Rafael). Please print and share this flyer in your meetings.

  • Become a Faithful Fiver and support San Francisco and Marin Intergroup’s efforts to carry the A.A. message of hope and recovery to the still suffering alcoholic in Marin and San Francisco. Help us reach our goal of 350 Faithful Fivers by the end of this year!

  • Technology Committee is looking for volunteers with experience in WordPress and Airtable. Its next meeting is September 5 @ 6 pm via zoom. Email [email protected] for details.

  • San Francisco Public Relations meets on August 8 @ 7pm online. In the spirit of rotation, it is looking for volunteers to take commitments. Get involved with Sunday Streets on 8/21 and the Reentry Fair on 9/9 in San Francisco.

  • Sunshine Club’s next volunteer orientation is 8/31 @ 7:30pm on zoom. Please announce that the Sunshine Club brings A.A. meetings to members of the Fellowship who are unable to get out to regularly scheduled meetings due to accident, illness and other medical conditions or circumstances such as maternity leave. If you would like a meeting or would like to volunteer, email [email protected].

  • HelpChat Committee provides a live chat service (via Slack) for anyone new to A.A. or existing members that reaches out from the aasfmarin.org website. Its next meeting is 8/16 @ 6pm, and it is in need of a new committee chair. To learn more, email [email protected]

There’s Still Time: Submit Your Story for the Big Book

What’s your recovery story? The A.A. trustees’ Literature Committee is searching for recovery stories from a broad cross-section of our local communities for the fifth edition of Alcoholics Anonymous. As Bill W. wrote on page 29: “Our hope is that many alcoholic men and women, desperately in need, will see these pages, and we believe that it is only by fully disclosing ourselves and our problems that they will be persuaded to say, ‘Yes, I am one of them too; I must have this thing.’” Consider contributing your experience, strength and hope to the fifth edition. Sunshine Club is excited to be back in action and in need of willing volunteers! A working group is revitalizing the pamphlet “A.A. for the Black and African-American Alcoholic“. The updated pamphlet will include fresh stories and a new title that is respectful, inclusive and reflects the perspective of Black A.A. members sharing their experience, strength and hope. Consider sharing your own story as part of this effort.
