Join an amazing weekend of panels, roundtable discussions, open mic sharing and speakers—all focused on General Service— at the Pacific Region Alcoholics Anonymous Service Assembly (PRAASA). IGRs: Join IFAA’s Group Inventory!

Group inventories are essential to a group’s spiritual health. After many months working together to prepare, IFAA’s group inventory will take place Saturday February 5 @ 10am online. It’s an important time for Intergroup Reps (IGRs) and alternates to share opinions and insights on IFAA and its operations—such as Central Office, aasfmarin.org, The Buzz newsletter and more. If you’re an IGR/alternate, be sure to check your email for details on how to participate.

Be Restored to Sanity!

The next Step by Step workshop is focused on Step Two. Learn more about “coming to believe” at this speaker/discussion meeting on February 12 @ 2pm in San Rafael. Click here for more info.

Check out this New Audio Speaker Library!

Missed a meeting? Check out the speakers in the new audio library now available from the Tuesday Chip meeting in Marin. Tuesday Chip started recording speakers during the pandemic. Its library now has a collection of great speakers from around the country, and they’re being made available to our Fellowship—great recovery any time!

Celebrate IFAA’s 75th Birthday!
Did you know that our Intergroup turned 75 this week? We’ll be celebrating this major milestone with periodic items in the coming months in The Buzz that highlight the history of the Intercounty Fellowship of A.A. and Central Office.

Central Office’s Beginnings

A February 1952 issue of the A.A. Grapevine detailed great turmoil at the Alano Club on Bush St. in San Francisco, which opened in the 1940s: “Strains had developed because of the uncomfortable overcrowding of A.A. meetings, drunks, panhandlers, wolves and Red Riding Hoods.” Tempers flared and relationships became strained. Then in January of 1947, the first San Francisco Central Office was opened on Sutter St. (pictured).

Correspondence available in the GSO Archives indicates that the first Central Office Secretary (or manager) was named Anne C., and by 1948, Bob G. had taken over. Since its first location, Central Office moved five times in San Francisco before reaching its present location in 2001 at 1821 Sacramento St., where it is now open to the public Tuesday-Saturday from 10 am-6 pm.

Shasta Winterfest is this Weekend!

Shasta Winterfest is on! The conference will be held in person in Redding and on zoom January 28-January 30. Register here for details.

Reminder: Learn All About Our 7th Tradition!

Curious what makes a financially healthy group? Come join the CNCA 06 Finance Committee on January 29, 2022 @ 10am for a virtual finance workshop. There will be 3 presentations on making a financially healthy group, best practices for a digital basket, and clarification on who the “other service entities” are and why we support them! Spanish translation will be provided. Please see the flyer below or online for details.

Be a Part of the A.A. Grapevine Audio Project!

A.A. Grapevine is collecting up to 7-minute long stories from the Fellowship in the form of audio recordings. Share as you would at a meeting—or pick a topic of your own choosing. If your audio story is accepted, Grapevine will publish it. Check it out!

Focus on Our Primary Purpose

We hope you’ve had a chance to visit your shiny new aasfmarin.org website and noticed how easy it is to use. But did you also realize how well it serves our primary purpose—to serve the alcoholic who still suffers?

It all starts with the big homepage headline: “Do you want to stop drinking?” followed by “find a meeting.” There’s also a prominent section with newcomer resources, titled, “Want to stop drinking?” It includes:

  • 20 questions self-assessment
  • Contact information for SF and Marin Teleservice
  • FAQs about A.A.
  • Helpful literature such as “A Newcomer Asks” and “Is A.A. for Me?”

Be sure to check these out and share with a newcomer!

Got feedback on the new website? Please let Central Office know!
